Prevention of lead poisoning

Prevention of lead poisoning

  • Lead is a heavy metal.
  • Lead poisoning can occur if lead accumulates in the body in excess. Gasoline, paint, earthenware, industrial pipes, batteries, and various kinds of furniture you use may contain little lead, and factory smoke may contain little lead.
  • Car exhaust that uses lead-based gasoline may contain some lead. When you breathe this polluted air, lead components are sucked into your body and lead to lead poisoning.
  • Lead can enter the body when children suck and eat lead-based objects or toys or are exposed to these environments.
  • Newborns, infants, and school-age children have a very small amount of lead in the blood of adults.
  • Lead poisoning can occur when blood lead levels are higher than normal. When the lead concentration in the blood is less than 10ug/dl and the lead concentration in the blood is 11~40ug/dl, behavioral disorders or other signs of lead poisoning may appear mildly. In general, symptoms of severe poisoning rarely appear.
  • At this time, rather than treating lead poisoning with drugs, the main treatment is preventive treatment so that lead no longer enters the human body, and periodic blood lead concentration measurement and observational treatment are all of the treatment (parents should also be at least the half-doctors-children and families).
  • Refer to the Encyclopedia of Nursing, Volume 1 Children and Adolescents, Emergency Medical Care-Lead Poisoning).
  • If the blood lead level is more than 40 ug/dl, symptoms of lead poisoning can appear significantly.
  • If lead poisoning is severe, symptoms such as anemia, headache, and vomiting may appear, systemic convulsions may occur and death may occur.
  • If the lead concentration in your blood is 10ug/dl or more, you need to find out where and through what route the lead got into your body.
