지네, 노래기, 애벌레, 독나방, 이, 사면발이, 모기, 빈대, 벼룩, 진드기, 벌 등의 동물을 통틀어 곤충 또는 절지동물이라 하고 그런 동물에 물리거나 쏘이거나 접촉해 생긴 상처를 통틀어 곤충 물림, 쏘임(Insect bite and sting), 또는 절지동물 물림(Arthropode bite)이라고 한다.
아이들이 개나 고양이 등 애완동물과 놀거나 잔디밭에서 놀거나 산이나 들에 갈 때 진드기, 모기 등에 물리면 그로 인해 피부염이 생길 수 있고 알레르기 반응, 또는 전신 감염병에 걸일 수 있다.
이에 물리면 발진티푸스(typhus fever)가 발생할 수 있다.
모기에 물린 후 일본 뇌염, 황열(황색열), 말라리아 등에 걸릴 수 있고
진드기에 물려 라임 병, 쯔쯔가무시병(양충병), 록키산 홍반열 리켓티아 등에 걸릴 수 있다.
들이나 산에 산보 가기 전에 곤충 등이 몸에 달라붙지 않고 곤충 물림이나 쏘임을 예방하는 것이 대단히 중요하다.
그런 목적으로 쓰이는 곤충 방충제(Insect repellent/곤충 퇴치제)는 여러 종류가 있다.
그 중 피부에 발을 수 있는 방충제로서는 10% 농도 이하 되는 DEET(Diethyltoluamide)가 가장 효과가 좋고 옥외로 나가기 바로 전에 옷에 뿌려 방충하는데 Permethrin이 가장 효과가 좋다.(출처; Infectious disease in children, August 2005, p.3)
Permethrin은 무명옷에 한번 뿌려 묻힌 후 세탁기로 5번까지 세탁하고 드라이 클린을 해도 그 방충제 효과가 있다.
모기장이나 슬리핑 백, 텐트 등에 뿌려 모기에 물리지 않게 할 수 있고 모기향 등으로 방충시킬 수 있다.
모자를 쓰고 긴소매 긴 저고리 바지를 입어 곤충에 물리지 않게 예방할 수 있다.
Permethrin의 상품명에는 Sawyer 등이 있다.

All animals such as centipedes, millipedes, caterpillars, poison moths, teeth, quadrupeds, mosquitoes, bed bugs, fleas, ticks, and bees are all called insects or arthropods.
Insect bite and sting), or Arthropode bite. When children play with pets such as dogs or cats, play on the lawn, or go to the mountains or fields, bites by ticks and mosquitoes can lead to dermatitis, allergic reactions, or systemic infectious diseases.
If you are bitten by this, typhus fever may occur. After being bitten by a mosquito, you can get Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever, malaria, etc.
A tick bite can cause Lyme disease, tsutsugamushi disease (worm disease), Rocky Mountain spotty fever, Rickettsia.
It is very important to prevent insect bites or stings without sticking to the body before going on a walk in the fields or mountains.
There are several types of insect repellents used for that purpose.
Among them, DEET (Diethyltoluamide), which has a concentration of less than 10%, is the most effective as an insect repellent that can be applied to the skin, and Permethrin is the most effective for repelling insects by spraying it on clothes just before going outdoors (Source: Infectious disease in children, August). 2005, p.3)
Permethrin is effective in repellent even if it is sprayed once on cotton clothes, washed up to 5 times in a washing machine, and then dried clean.
It can be sprayed on mosquito nets, sleeping bags, tents, etc. to prevent mosquito bites, and can be repelled with mosquito repellent. You can prevent insect bites by wearing a hat, long sleeves, and long jackets.
